Encouraging God’s People to Study the Bible Better!

Christmas 2009
Volume #002
Issue #012

Hello <>!

Welcome to the Christmas edition of the Bible-Student-Online.org e-zine, The Encourager.

CHRISTmas. Notice what the first six letters spell. Most people don't.

But we as Christians must not forget the One who has given us the title we bear. We are CHRISTians.

Therefore, CHRISTmas represents a special time when we lay an extra amount of intrest at the doorstep of our Savior. After all...

He's the Reason for the season.

And that isn't just a cliche. It's the truth. Let's not forget it.

How does this relate to Bible study? Well...

Let's find out.

...without further ado...

Here are some of the useful little tidbits we’re offering for this Christmas…

1. Tip of the Month – Supercharge your Bible study time with these great ideas.

2. Starters of the Month – Can’t find anything to study? Look here for “starter” ideas.

3. Study of the Month – We’ve posed a question that we would like you to answer by making a thorough study of the Bible. Feel free to use resources. But the applications need to be your own.

4. What’s New? – We have several projects going (and are we busy!) Find out the "new news" here at Bible-Student-Online.org!

Alright…let’s get to it!

Bible Study Tip of the Month

Where is Christ in Your Bible Study Agenda?

William J. Brown

The title question may seem over-simplified. But believe me, it isn't. I've seen in my own life how Bible study has represented everything from completing a sermon on time to curiosity as to what a specific text means. I've even studied just because that was what I had scheduled!

After a while, I had to finally ask the question, "Where is Christ in all this?"

This question should dominate all walks of life...

The way we interact with people.

What we say to those around us.

What we view on television.

What we look at on the internet.

But especially, how we interact with the One who made it all possible, Jesus Christ. What better time to focus on God's Word than when we remember why He was born in the first place.

But what normally happens? We get so busy in the buying and the planning and the cooking and eveything else, we forget HIM. What a shame. We dedicate this whole season to Him, only to focus the whole thing on ourselves.

We must remember, the fact we have the Bible, the fact we have churches and families and everything else is because of HIM. Shouldn't we honor Him in this Christmas season by doing even more to remember Him in our own personal time?

We should. And we must.

Let's then make a commitment that however busy we become, we will always make time everyday to thank our Lord and spend a few minutes of our busy schedules with Him.

It's the least we can do. Believe me. It's the VERY least we can do for the One who died in our place.

Let's get into His Word this month so we can remember the true Reason for the season, Jesus Christ.

That's it for this month. I hope this was a help. We'll have more next month.

Until then...

Keep up the good work. And...

Merry CHRISTmas!

God bless!

Bible Study Starters of the Month

Here are a couple ideas to jump-start your brain for your personal Bible study…

1. Jesus didn't just pop on the scene in the Gospels. John 1 says He was always there. Find references to Christ before the N.T. (Hint: Look in places like Isaiah 53 and the book of Micah).

2. Outline Christ's life from His birth to His resurrection using the Gospels as your guide. A good Bible handbook, study Bible or harmony of the Gospels will aid you here.

Bible Study Project of the Month

Put on your thinking caps this month...

The church today holds to many traditions regarding the birth of Christ. But how many are just that, only tradition, and how many are truly biblical?

Search for various details in the accounts of Jesus' birth and events that transpired shortly thereafter (Luke 2 and Matthew 1 and 2).

What is truth and what is fiction? It's your job to find out.

And of course...

Contact us through our “Contact Page” and tell us what you found. We're interested to hear what your studies turn up!

What’s New?

This month we're just kind of tying up loose ends. Some have asked when we're going to finish our Spiritual Warfare Bible study. That's in the works. We hope that during this active holiday season, we can finish that up.

Also, we hope to have a few more holiday studies up as well. It's a big goal, but we hope to meet that for you this holiday season.

Also, we've had such a large number of tests taken lately, we're currently over a month behind in scoring them. It's OK to keep taking test. Just remember it may not be until January (or more) before we get to yours.

We're playing catchup. Please be patient.

Thanks for your prayers. Please keep that prayer support coming!

Merry Christmas everyone!

That about wraps it up for this month. We hope you enjoyed this e-zine provided by Bible-Student-Online.org.

God bless!
